I am currently unable to take any orders as I am on maternity leave. Look forward to returning to the business next year.

Ring Size - How do I know?

This is one of the most common questions that I am asked.

So how do you know your own or someone else's ring size?

If it is for yourself the only thing to do to be completely accurate is to go to a jewellers and to be measured professionally. If you describe what kind of ring you are looking to get they can ensure they measure you using the correct ring gauge. If you are buying for someone else and it isn't meant to be a surprise, then this is also the best option.

I know at the moment with the restrictions in place not everyone will be able to visit a jewellers. If it isn't possible then there are other options and some of these will also work for buying a ring as a surprise for somebody.

A very good alternative is to purchase a ring gauge, they are easily available online and are usually only around £3. UK ring sizing follows the alphabet A-Z, the average size in the UK is an M for a female.

Once you fit the gauge to the chosen ring finger it will let you know which size you will need. . When sizing you want to make sure that the gauge is comfortable when on the finger. For a good fit you want a slight struggle over the knuckle when taking it off.

In a bit more of a rush than that? Then you could take an existing ring they or you have and measure the inside diameter of the ring and from there work out the size of the ring. Just remember this will only work if the ring you're buying is for the same finger the borrowed ring is from.

There is another option, however this one tends to be less accurate than the others.

  1. Find a piece of string or strip of paper no wider than 1.4 cm (1/2 inch).
  2. Wrap it around the base of the appropriate finger.
  3. Use a pen to mark the point on the string/paper where it overlaps, forming a complete circle.
  4. With a ruler, measure the length from the starting end of the string/paper to the pen mark.
  5. Use the chart below to determine your UK ring size.

If in doubt with any of these options, you can always purchase a ring in any size and exchange it for the right size later, remember not to wear it as being the wrong size it could become damaged. Do bear in mind as Memor Jewellery is all handmade, it will be made to order and therefore will take 2-3 weeks for the exchange to be complete.
