I am currently unable to take any orders as I am on maternity leave. Look forward to returning to the business next year.

Tangled Chains

Working in a jewellery store it was not unusual that I would see customers chains that had accidentally become knotted or tangled with another chain. It is a very common and frustrating issue for lots of us and its easily done, but sometimes not easily undone.

They can be such a nuisance to untangle, and chains are usually very delicate so they can also easily become damaged in the process.

Here are three tips to help you untangle your chains without breaking a sweat or a chain.

Tip One

It seems obvious to some, but in the midst of frustration it is easily forgotten. Make sure you have a flat and firm surface to untangle the chains on, a kitchen table etc. Doing it in mid air is going to make your life harder, gravity will pull them down and work against you. Try to do it head height level, if you can see whats going on, it'll be easier to crack the puzzle.

Tip Two

A thin needle will help you get in between the knots and with the needle just wiggle from side to side easing the knot loose. Do not pull at it, your likely to damage the chain and your sanity! Don't have a needle? You can use a straightened out staple, works just as well.

Tip Three

Walk away and come back to it. Feeling really frustrated and hot under the collar? just leave it for a while and come back to it. You really do not want to damage the chain by being too forceful and stretching the links, so take your time and take a break if its trying your patience.

If you really cant unravel those knots, pop to a jeweller they should be happy enough to do it for you and they really shouldn't charge you either. They will also check the chain over for you to make sure it hasn't become damaged in the process.

Do you have any other tips for untangling chains? Id love to hear them and I will definitely share them.
